I've convinced myself that the reason he says it is because he thinks I am there to babysit and that Kelly will be leaving for work. I will allow him to prefer the company of his mom over me and I know that he also partially says it to get a rise out of me; that little stink!
His displays of hatred have only made me treasure our little moments of love even more. Our quiet times in the kitchen making cookies or banana bread, the times he snuggles next to me and hands me a book, when he asks me to put his train tracks together; really any time that we have just the two of us.
One night (after his nightly dose of melatonin) I got the honor of putting Lele to sleep. He ever so cutely read (from memory) "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" and was peacefully snoozing by the time we hit the last page. I lingered next to his quiet self longer than usual that night.
As I look back at this picture I am reminded of the importance of slowing down and cherishing each tender minute with my growing boys.
