Just about the same time that I usually start dreading going back to work, I finally realized that I wasn't going back... The first couple weeks of August were really hard. The reality hit that I'm not a teacher anymore, no classroom to set up, kids to meet, or lessons to plan. While I know that it would be so much harder to go back, my not returning has been more difficult than I ever would have imagined. Last week I finally moved all of my stuff out of my classroom. Six years worth of files were transferred to a flash drive, reams of paper files were recycled, novels were shared, and picture books brought home for my new students. Needless to say, it was a bittersweet day.
